Camp Myrtlewood is a rustic retreat amidst temperate rainforests, creeks and meadows of southern Oregon’s Coast Range. For many visitors, there’s a feeling of coming home as soon as they enter Camp Myrtlewood, and that’s just what the Church of the Brethren founders envisioned.
“Campers are given the space and nourishment for growth both personally and in community with others,” says Morgan Woods, Camp Myrtlewood’s manager. “When campers leave Myrtlewood, they feel like they’re leaving a part of themselves, and I always remind them that they’re taking camp with them wherever they go.”
Each year, Myrtlewood hosts about three hundred fifth and sixth grade students for Outdoor School, in addition to many private groups throughout the year.
With funding from the Gray Family Foundation, the camp completed an extensive renovation of one of its largest bunkhouses. They also began renovating the adjoining bathrooms, a project that should be completed in 2020.
“Gray Funding has meant the rejuvenation of Camp Myrtlewood for a new generation of campers. Without this funding camp would be hard-pressed to make these important improvements,” Woods says.
